*The sections below explain Maven Bio’s capabilities in more detail.*

Introduction

What’s the best capability to use for a given type of question?

Rule of thumb:

  • If your question requires structured analysis, multiple steps, or reusable outputs, start with the AI Research Agent. The Agent automatically selects and runs the appropriate capability (Smart Tables, Report Builder etc).

  • Attach Workflows to the AI research agent along with your query to make your research more targeted.

AI Research Agent

Use the AI Research Agent to delegate end-to-end analytical tasks to Maven Bio. The Agent plans and executes structured research workflows and delivers citation-backed outputs such as Smart Tables, reports, spreadsheets, and supporting evidence.

What the AI Research Agent Does

  • Converts a high-level request into a structured research workflow

  • Plans, executes, and documents the analysis inside Maven Bio
    Produces transparent, citation-backed outputs including:

  • Structured tables

  • Research reports

  • Spreadsheets, pptx, excel models, graphics

  • Supporting evidence and research notes

Assigning a Task to the Agent

From the Home screen:

  • Select Assign a task to the Maven Bio AI Research Agent

  • Enter your question or analysis request

You can also:

  • Select a predefined workflow and tag the workflow directly in the input box

  • Attach relevant files or work items for added context

Auto Mode vs Plan Mode

  • Plan Mode: The Agent proposes a research plan before execution.

Use when : You wish to edit steps, adjust deliverables, and approve the approach before it runs

  • Auto Mode: The Agent automatically determines the required steps and deliverables and executes the task immediately without plan approval.

Use when: You need a fast, straightforward response or when triggering a workflow that the Agent can run independently.

Attaching Files and Work Items

  • You can attach files to enhance your analysis: Supporting files include: PDF, DOCX, PPTX, CSV, XLSX, images, etc.

  • Up to 5 total attachments, each ≤ 2.5 MB, can be included per task.

Inline Tagging

  • Use inline tagging to provide precise context: Type @ + item + space → Select from the dropdown

  • You can tag: Drugs, Trials, Companies, Indications, Targets, Mechanisms, Documents, Reports, Smart Tables, and Blueprints.

  • This helps the Agent focus on the exact entities you intend to research on.

Using Workflows (/)

Use workflows when you need repeatable, standardized, and traceable analyses.

To use a workflow: Type / in the input box and select a workflow or Click a suggested workflow below the input field

Workflows can be:

  • Maven Bio provides built-in workflows for common analytical use cases, including Search & Screen, Landscape Analysis, Opportunity Assessment, Asset Deep Dive, Company and Indication Overviews, Deal Intelligence, NPV Analysis, Cross-Trial Comparisons, Target Product Profile development, and Meeting preparation.

  • Organization-wide (custom organisational workflows - need to be created and shared with organisation wide access by a members of your team)

  • Personal (custom workflows that you create for your work)

Working with Completed AI Research Agent Tasks

After reviewing the results:

  • You can continue asking related questions within the same Agent session.

  • All generated artifacts are saved and accessible from Tasks.

  • You can iterate on research within the same Agent session.

  • Agent outputs are structured, transparent, and reusable.

  • You always see the steps taken to reach a conclusion.

  • Deliverables are clearly listed and easy to access.

  • Citations are embedded directly in the analysis.

Smart Tables

For when you want structured analysis best served by a tabular format. Best way to create a comprehensive list of drugs, trials, or companies, and enrich them with custom criteria.

Creating a Smart Table

  • There are 3 ways to create a Smart Table:

    • Create Table via Search - search through Maven’s extensive set of drugs and trials

      • Pro tip: Use the “suggest filters” window to scope the precise list of items you wish to include in your analysis->If you’re not able to find an exact filter for what you’re looking for, first narrow the list as much as possible using the available (or suggested) filters. Then, apply AI columns to further weed out entities that don’t meet your criteria.

  • Import Table - bring in an excel/csv file with a list of drugs, trials, or companies and have Maven apply AI on top of them. Perfect if you already have a list on file, or if you’re more comfortable searching with an existing database (e.g., Pharmaprojects or GlobalData)

    • Pro tip: Upon importing, check how many entities were matched by looking at the top “Row Mappings” icon.

    • If a significant number are unmatched, double check if you imported the sheet correctly, or contact support.

    • This feature currently supports a list of maximum 1000 rows.

  • Start with a blank table - useful when you want to quickly create a table with just a few items and already have a list of them.

  • If using “Create Table via Search” you need to click “+Create Smart Table” to convert your search results into a saved Table, after which you can update the title and AI Columns as needed.

  • To use Blueprints when creating AI Columns, click blueprint library option in the top right of the menu after you click + AI Columns

Using a Smart Table

  • Adding AI Columns enriches a Smart Table with additional information.

  • Before adding AI Columns, check if the information you want is already available via the standard columns

  • You can use the sort and filter options to enable easier comparison within a smart table that has been enriched with AI Columns

  • Clicking on the column header itself will open filtering options, where you can apply additional filters based on the information in that column.

Report Builder

For when you want text-based analysis backed by deep research and citations.

  • Reports can be created via typing in a fresh prompt (usually 2-3 sentences) or via Blueprints, which you can access on the top left of the report creation window - click blueprint library option in the top left after you click + AI Columns

  • When creating a report, be sure you have tagged entities if your report type requires them. You’ll see this via yellow warning boxes — for example, the report below requires tagging an indication to focus the report.

  • If the yellow boxes don’t appear, the blueprint does not require a tagged entity to run. However, tagging entities can significantly improve the results so use the tagging feature whenever possible.

Watchlists

Use Watchlists to stay up to date on drugs, trials, or companies that are important to you.

  • Watchlist updates come hourly for press releases and SEC Filings etc. and daily for clinical trial updates.

  • You can create a watchlist by adding items one-by-one, or by first creating a Smart Table, and then adding those items to the Watchlist.

  • When you click ‘Import table’ in Watchlists, you’ll see all the smart tables you’ve created or imported in your account. You can select any of these and use it as the base list for your watchlist.

Blueprints

Using Blueprints within Smart Tables or Report Builder

  • Blueprints you create are saved in the Blueprint Library. You can share them organization-wide or with specific members or teams in your org.

  • Whenever you make changes to a blueprint, you must save/update it for the changes to apply and for future use. If you click Update, the changes will be reflected for all users who have access to that blueprint.

  • If you choose Create a new blueprint in the save window, it will save the updated version as a new copy in your account only.
